Class code: D05
Class name: Adv. Debate Practice
Teacher: Riaz Mahmud
Requirement: One year tournament
Number of sessions: 16
Objective:
The Debate Practice Club is appropriate for high school students who have a firm grasp on British and Canadian Parliamentary debating formats and have some experience attending tournaments. Classes will have a greater focus on attending tournaments, exploring strategies for students to make it to out rounds of tournaments (quarter finals, semifinals and finals) and will include increased readings and homework. Students will re-examine topics covered in L3 with a more analytical lens. Students at this level should be dedicated to debate and look to attend a couple tournaments a year.
Syllabus
Due to the high caliber nature of the class, intended on coaching students to competitive success at tournaments, the coach will meet with each student individually during the first class to gauge what would be best for their growth as a debater. Identifying their areas for improvement, the instructor will gear class lectures and practices to suit them.
