今年，Jody老师选择一部已经拍成电影的小说，分析小说、比较电影、学习写作！

好消息！小渔圣诞假期小说+电影+写作营(Essay Writing Workshop )，由小渔金牌老师Dr. Jody给8-12年级学生解锁如下困惑：

1. 为什么我花大力气写的Essay得不到高分？
2. 为什么老师说我的作文是summary或者opinion，没有critical analysis?
3. 老师说我的写作没有细节(need details)，不够具体(be specific)?
4. 为什么老师说我写的论点(thesis)不是论点(no arguments)？

写作营的学习内容：

什么是论点(thesis)；什么是导论(introduction)；内容组织和主题选择；如何开始动笔；如何将想法链接起来；MLA格式和引用；观点>证明>解释；如何精读；如何具体化；语法和标点符号再写作中的规则；正式论文(formal essay)与非正式论文(informal essay)的比对；与评论性文章(opinion paper)、总结性文章(summary)、书评(book review)的对比；反思和创造力的作用；故意谬论(intentional fallacy)的问题。

这是一个要求学生参与度很高的写作营，形式包括：

同伴编辑、分组工作、分享想法、课堂写作、同伴反馈，以及从头到尾的完整论文写作演练。还会有强制性的分小组进行的主题讨论和展示。

Workshop contents:

Thesis

Introduction

Essay organization of content and thematic selection

How to start an essay and think through linking ideas

MLA and citations

Point/proof/explanation

How to make close readings/be specific

English writing rules for grammar and punctuation

Formal essay writing

Vs. Informal writing

The problem with opinion papers, summary thoughts, book reviews.

Role of reflection and creativity.

Problems of intentional fallacy.

Workshop activities:

Peer editing, group work, sharing ideas, in class writing, peer feedback, and a complete essay writing walk through from start to finish over the 3 days. There will also be mandatory group participate and group presentation of everyone’s ideas.
